Shimon Levy House (the "Boat" house) is situated on the corners of Levanda and HaMasger streets and is one of Tel Aviv White City's, most famous buildings, known for both its unique features and unusual location. The building, designed according to the international style, was constructed in 1934. The structure on the top floor was planned and used as a synagogue in the building's early years. The international building style ("Bauhaus") was popular in Tel Aviv, mainly in the thirties. The style was characterized by asymmetry, flat roofs and straight windows. In Tel Aviv the style adopted another trade mark: round, corner balconies. The amount of local buildings designed according to the Bauhaus style, have awarded Tel Aviv the title of a World Heritage Site. Yehuda Lev Levanda (1835-1888), author, publicists and a member of the Hovevei Zion ("Lovers of Zion") movement. He was the Governor of Vilna's advisor for Jewish Affairs.
